"Friends, family members and sometimes strangers who know little or nothing about grad school will occationally, though carelessly, suggest that you grow up and get a real job, and that's cuz they don't understand that [while you shuffle between library and home with a laptop and many books next to you], it is a 12 hours day and 7 days a week's kind of job; and while you're at home with a computer, you're working." Well said. Thing is - I haven't even enrolled myself in any program yet that I received such comments already. And yes, I'm currently at home and with a computer whole day but I got myself a position at a social enterprise too. But strictly speaking, I may be on top of something that's much more important than any of the topics some of you people could even bring up in a conversation. It's okay. Rejection from friends and family can be painful sometimes but not being able to get close to answering the sometimes absurd questions I have about this world will not only be painful but regrettable. Dan Ariely may say it's a great relativity example. I just hope that people can put themselves into others' shoes more and see things from various perspectives, at least try to.
