(sept 4) what do you do when something tastes wrong? I have a cup about my spIn & I've only been drinking from it for months but today I was drinking water & it tasted wrong for some reason. The cup was smelling like what I tasted so it wasn't the water. I tried to wash it again twice but nothing changed. I don't know if maybe my mom changed the dish soap without me noticing (I'm staying with her for quarantine), but if so I can't do anything about it. But now I'm upset because I need that cup..
what do you do when something tastes wrong? Spit it out, clean my mouth immediately with something like a drink or even brush my teeth, and then throw away the offensive food.

I hate hate hate hate haaaaaaaaaaaaate product changes, DO NOT CHANGE MY PRODUCTS, this is not fair, it’s not right, and it’s extremely upsetting that allistics DO NOT understand HOW AWFUL it is for them to do this to us.
I have also have products that were changed themselves, like I bought the soap I always bought for years and years and then one day it smells wrong, and I check the packaging and it says “Improved new scent” and I litrally cried, for hours, becuase how could someone do that to me? I was so betrayed, and then I had to go through the horrible experience of trying out new soaps until I found another one that I could live with. It was horrible.
Here’s how you fix your cup.
1) Talk to your mom and find out if she changed the soap. If she DID, ask her if she will please change back to the old soap, and never do this to you again. If she doesn’t understand or refuses, fine. Move to step 2.
2) Soak the cup in extremely hot water. EXTREMELY hot. The hottest the sink goes. Materials, especially plastic, expand when they are made hot, which releases the things they are holding within them (such as the previous soap smell). Please don’t scald yourself. Put the cup in the sink, then fill it with the hot water, don’t touch the hot water yourself. If you also want to cleanse the outside of the cup, put it in a pot and fill that with the hot water. Let it sit for a minute or two until the cup is as hot as the water.
3) Change the sink temperature to water that’s hot, but not going to hurt you. As hot as you can stand it without hurting yourself, and then scrub the cup with a scrubbing sponge with either the RIGHT(old) soap, or with NO soap. Use a new sponge if you have to.
4) Rinse the cup with COLD water. This will cause the material to contract again, sealing in any smells.
5) Smell the cup. The gross smell WILL be reduced. It may even be totally gone. If it’s NOT totally gone, repeat soaking in the hot water.
I do this myself with ALL the cups I use. Because of Covid, I’m not able to get my normal dishwasher detergent. The one I currently have has some gross lemon smell that I can’t stand. So I’m hand-soaking the cups I use in the hot water to get the smell off before I use them. This method really works.
It’s also possible that your cup is starting to smell because it’s not getting fully cleaned in the edges at the bottom. A good hot soak and hand scrub will also help with this.
I hope you’re able to get the smell out. This is a SERIOUS issue, I completely understand how important it is, and I really, really hope you’re able to get your cup back.
If it turns out that it’s not a new soap, but that the cup is old, it may be time to retire it and buy a new one. You can still keep you special cup, maybe turn it into a pencil holder or put it on a shelf, but if you can’t get it clean, don’t make yourself suffer by using it.
