April 23, 1899: On a Sunday afternoon in Georgia, a lynch mob of 2000 people gathered for the lynching of 23 year old Sam Hose, a black man questionably accused of murdering a white planter and raping his wife. It's one of the most notorious and gruesome events in the history of the United States. His ears, fingers, and genitals were cut off and his face was skinned before he was burned in kerosene soaked wood. Before his body was even cool, it was cut up into pieces and sold as souvenirs. His heart and liver, as well as chopped down pieces of the tree, were sold at ridiculously high prices. Of course it was all based on a lie. #samhose #makebeingblackinamericalegal #lynching #lynchmob #disgustinghumans #neverforget #blackhistory #blackhidstory #thingstheydontteachyou
