i read ur vinyl hell doc and it is REALLY interesting to me. i really like what you did with it and i’d love to know more about the characters… do you have a doc or directory for them so i can remember who we’re talking about? if not that’s okay i am just trying to piece everything together

you mentioned in the doc that some songs are more important than others, like protagonists. what are those songs/characters?

you also said in your doc “if there was no plot to VH” so… is there a plot?

i’m really interested in your world building, it’s very cool and i really fw the idea. sorry if these asks are too broad or not what you wanted. i just want to know more !!!

THANKYOU. runs in a circle really scared. it means a great deal to me so I am glad when people find it somewhat interesting. I do not get asked very much about them so I hope I am not sounding too stilted or anything. I don't have any kind of document about the characters, or any good counterpart (I have a toyhouse but I find writing there difficult, im not sure how much I saw on artfight so that's messy) - maybe I should make one now? if there is demand? idk. but there are kind of only two characters who matter AT ALL, and have any kind of DEPTH, and they are the two protagonists. so a document would not be very long. unsure.

that bit in the document (assuming you mean for the characters section?) is just meant to be the divide between active/singing & non-singing characters, I'll change that to something more clear. oops. it's a musical universe so they do more.

there is indeed, allegedly, a plot. or things that happen in a somewhat present outline. vinyl hell is the story my main two ocs (jes & gittens) are in, so they're the two fucks I'm always drawing or writing "fan"fiction about. im sorry you asking if there's a plot is really funny😭 i dont know now. Okay. My Bullshit.

i should say that vinyl hell is a little meandering in plot, and i should eventually pick a medium to better tighten it up.

this first part is backstory that is mainly understood as it begins to end. i'm uncertain what human year you could say it takes place in, mainly because it doesn't matter, but the times of classical prog & new wave (and their affiliate genres) are over, so both of those music worlds are over too. there are no more new strangers with innovations to vaguely notice, and something more than the usual boredom of a waiting period can kind of wiggle in. a passive character of a flagship song remembers, in such a state, that once before their disappearance (departure to a new genre-world), some vague creatures (songs by the same band, whole new line-up) came by - and though their noise was terrible, it was not so bad as the metal of the 70s. they resolve that by thinking of it always, they could go for some greener place, not as dull and rote as this has become...

unfortunately it does not work so well - not only is the new wave world loud and eyesoring, but the character's memories evaporated off, leaving only vague impressions on an unpleasant fusspot, dear jes. he has the sense that something is missing and he isn't from here, but not what or what to do, and also lacks tact. he bumbles around for a while, annoying people and even the spirit of the planet (girl idk. its in the mechanics doc), and even his new-body dysmorphia/dysphoria doesn't slow him down. jess longs to leave, obviously, and usually falls for any kind of (often in his imagination) authority in the assumption they can do something & take care of him.

that later trait gets gittens involved - after years and years of it, what's an effective critique of corruption & government abuse through its surreal connections in our world is starting to be gibberish to her. (kind of. it's not this simple it's just somewhere where it really doesn't make sense, especially because she's in a genre that can be equally fantastical or plain or money-chasing, not openly baring critique). when she realizes that jes is genuinely Not A Song and not just in a weirdo loop, the impossible dream is more interesting to chase than just being caught doing nothing forever, not even doing anything to anyone real.

there are other characters but its those two who kind of grow up. that's mainly what it's about, them growing past their shallowness into something more (not that it's deep for humans even in the end, but they aren't that).

i laugh really hard at the worst things i have gallows humour but i laugh when things are just bad and there's nothing actually funny i'm so lucky i've never been to a real funeral because i would make everyone else so uncomfortable

superstitions... honestly not really the only time i believe in stuff like that is when i'm really ill and grasping for symbols to serve as guiding lights and thankfully i'm not like that right now so i think everything that happens is what you make of it

hawaiian shirts, plastic flamingos, fruity drinks, everything gauche and tacky makes me smile in an unironic way at this point. extremely bad movies too there's something artful about mediocrity

i don't think the dead should be held sacred, why can't i talk about how much of an asshole this guy was anymore because he's in the ground? you live the way you want and you get to be judged however you lived when you go its not like its possible to even care about it

i'm embarrassed to say i don't have any but i plan on getting my ears and navel pierced at least someday, and tattoos are so cool to me but i want to wait for the right time and meaning in my life
