You woke from the morning sunlight shining in your face. You looked to your left only to be met with the absence of your husband. No wonder why you felt a little colder.
The smell of food and sound of sizzling and humming coming from the kitchen.
You yawn and stretch, getting out of bed, but not leaving the room before making it.
You made your way into the kitchen to see none other than your incredible husband – Samwise Gamgee – cooking on the stove and humming a familiar tune.
“Sam, love, what are you doing up this early?” You say softly with a smile before walking up to him and placing a kiss onto his cheek.
Sam turns to look at you, putting what he was making to the side, giving you his full attention.
“Well, I was making breakfast as a surprise, but now you're up and seein’ it, so…” Sam says awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.
“Oh, I'm sorry, love.” You frown. The last thing you wanted to do was this. You felt awful, it looks like he worked so hard on this.
“No, no, no, don't worry my dear. It's okay, it's perfect like this. I'm glad you're up because now I get to admire you while I cook.” Sam assures with a smile, holding your face in his hands.
You smile.
“Alright. I'm glad I get to admire you, too, Sammy.” You place a kiss on his lips. “So, what are you making?” You ask.
Sam sighs and begins stirring a pot. “Well, I've got leek and rabbit stew, some eggs, apple tarts, your favourites.” He smiles brightly.
“Aww, thank you my love. What's the special occasion, though?” You ask.
Sam turned to look at you with his eyebrows knitted in confusion.
“It's our fifth anniversary, lovely.”
Oh no. You felt bad before, and now you feel even worse… How could you forget? It was one of the most important dates of the year to you. Oh you felt horrible…
Your smile quickly turns into a frown and you stay quiet for a moment before crying.
Sam quickly puts the soup to the side and holds you in his arms, rubbing his hand along your back.
“Please, please don't worry about it. It happens, it's fine, it's just one day.”
“No, it's not okay. It's so important today, I don't know how I forgot. Oh my god, I'm so sorry, Sam. I'm so so sorry.” You sob.
Sam frowned. Not at the fact that you forgot, but at the fact that you were crying. He just hated to see you so sad.
He led you to the table to take a seat and knelt in front of you, holding your hands and kissing them.
“Y/n, nothing could ever make me upset with you. An anniversary is one day, when every day I get to see you. I get to love you. And I will always love you just like the day I realized I had, and when we got married. The only thing you need to give me is just you. You are all I need.” Sam says softly as he wiped the tears off your face.
You calmed down and let out a breathy laugh.
“What? Was that too cheesy?”
“No, not at all, Sammy, it was great. I just remembered something.” You say, rubbing your eyes and nose.
“And what might that be?” Sam smiled.
“To make up for forgetting, I'm giving you a… uh… surprise surprise. Yeah.” You said, grabbing ahold of Sam's hands again.
“Okay, are you ready for it?”
“Yes?”
“This is really serious, so I need you to be completely sure that you're ready.”
“Alright, yes. Yes I'm completely sure that I am ready.” Sam laughs, squeezing your hands.
“I'm pregnant.”
Silence filled the room and suddenly the only thing you could hear was the light bubbling of the stew on the pot. It stayed silent as Sam looked at you blankly.
You began to grow anxious. Why hasn't he said anything?
“Sam…?”
Sam quickly brought you into a careful hug, yet still holding onto you like his life depended on it.
You smiled and hugged back. Only moments later do you hear sniffling as Sam dug his face into your shoulder.
“Oh my goodness. Oh, Y/n! This is wonderful!” Sam exclaimed with a large grin on his face.
You laughed as he peppered kisses on your face.
“This is wonderful, love. You're wonderful.” Sam smiled as he caressed your cheek, admiring your features.
“Boy am I glad I saved that news.” You smile as you look back at him.
It looked like he was practically glowing with joy. The pink that dusted his cheeks and the freckles that spread across his face were so much more visible in the morning light. His green eyes shone just as bright as the smile on his face.
You truly loved this man, and you were so glad that you were having a child with him. You could never imagine your life without him in it.
“I love you so much, Sam.”
“I love you too, darling.”
