Getting settled here was... turning out to be more trouble than they'd expected. While they hadn't been really acknowledging it before, it was beginning to sink in that they had been kidnapped away from their home by something that was apparently bigger than even them and that they were trapped on a planet far removed from their own. They could only hear the comforting presence of the rest of their swarm, the constant background music of the Hive was entirely absent. The lack raised all sorts of questions Zazie did not wish to think about, but had to be considered.
If they died here, if they lost enough of their swarm, would they cease to exist like a mere human? They could not return to the Hive if they couldn't even hear them, could they?
And those questions that were causing a creeping dread were not even the most pressing.
Zazie had no idea how money actually worked, let alone how this money worked. Keys were not double dollars and they had only paid enough attention to the human's currency exchange to dismiss it as unimportant. So when they were hungry, they did not bother attempting to use money to get what they wanted, simply slipping up to a cart in the market and plucking several juicy looking fruits from the display.
Which led to their current predicament; namely being chased through the market with the shouts of "Thief, stop them!" ringing behind them. Really, all they had to do was get out of sight and then fly off with the food as their swarm, but the getting out of sight part was turning out to be a great deal more complicated than they were anticipating. There were people everywhere and nowhere to slip away without giving themself away right in the market. Probably a bad idea when they had no more Worms as backup and nowhere else to go if people panicked and tried to kill them.
They suddenly had a greater appreciation of Vash's ability to evade people. This was harder than it looked.
Okay, plan B then. There was a rather bulky man meandering around, hopefully either their childish appearance gave him pause and earned them sympathy, or Zazie could just use him as a temporary shield from their pursuers. Arms full of fruit, they skid behind the shiny, decorated man and hide behind his legs. Not unnoticed, but hopefully it will buy them enough time to spot an opening to slip away.
