Cross =Sacrifice and Suffering
God has been teaching me so much about Sanctification lately and after I do a girls retreat on that subject I might do a mini series on it (hence the long pause).. however, on my way home while listening to one of the Christians stations, (spiritfm) the devotional time was something very special to me today.
Luke 14:27 : "Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple".
The cross in today's culture has become a fashion accessory. However, the cross was meant for truly horrible criminals. Crucifixion on a cross was the worse possible death. The Cross represents sacrifice and suffering for the lives of Christians which is what Jesus is implying. We are going to have to sacrifice the world every day to follow Christ. We are going to have to suffer because Jesus did.
Cross Carrying = death. Death to the easy way, the world's way, desire, & self.
God has been teaching me about how I, as a Christian, Justified and Sanctified, can live differently from the world and carrying my cross by sacrificing the world daily is a part of the sanctification process.
One of my mentor's would always ask her children, "what's more important? People or things?". People win every time. Am I putting too much emphasis on the material instead of investing in the eternal? What does that look like for a Christian? (which will come up in the mini series in about a month).
Hebrews 12:1-2 : "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God"
Sacrifice means saying aside everything that brings us down and away from God. Choosing to deny the world, as well as the sin in it. We must be holy, set apart, SANCTIFIED in Christ and be willing to say no to our self and desires daily to follow Him.
