I’m Not Alright - Sanctus Real
I haven’t done one of these in a while. I know this song is old, but it tells a truth we all need to remember. It’s ok to not be ok. You don’t need to be perfect. It’s ok to feel upset, broken, messy, or to show weakness.
If weakness is a wound
That no one wants to speak of
The cool is just how far we have to fall
And I am not immune
I only want to be loved
But I feel safe behind the firewall
Our society treats moments of weakness and emotion as something shameful. We’re told to hide it and that it’s bad to show when we’re not ok, when in honesty it hurts us so much more.
Can I loose my need to impress
If you want the truth, I need to confess
I'm not alright
I'm broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through
It leads me to you, it leads me to you
God speaks through our pain and weakness. He uses our circumstances to draw us closer to Him. Healing is found in Him. We may be weak, but He is strong. Sometimes we need to stop putting on a facade and admit our weaknesses in order for Him to work.
Burn away the pride
Bring me to my weakness
Until everything I hide behind is gone
And when I'm open wide
With nothing left to cling to
Only you are there to lead me on
'Cause honestly, I'm not that strong
We need to break down the walls we’ve put up so He can work. Pride, a need to fit in, and shame can be barriers that hinder God’s wonderful and beautiful plan for our lives. Sometimes we need to allow Him to work through the raw, painful emotions in order for us to learn and grow. When we allow Him to break down those barriers and to work through our scars, He shows us something so beautiful and fantastic.
I'm not alright
I'm broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through
It leads me to you, it leads me to you
And I move, and I move, and I move, closer to you
And I move, and I move, and I move, closer to you
And I move, and I move, and I move, closer to you
And I move, and I move, and I move
The more we allow Him to heal our brokenness, the closer we get to Him. The closer we get to Him, the stronger we get through Him. He wants to be our strength. He wants to help us. He wants us to feel His love and security. We only need to let Him in.
I'm not alright
I'm broken inside, broken inside
Broken inside, broken inside
And all I go through
Leads me to you, leads me to you
I'm not alright, I'm not alright, I'm not alright, that's why I need you
Starting is simple, but not necessarily easy. We must admit to God what we’re feeling. Sometimes we’ve hidden for so long and we’ve built such huge walls that it’s hard to say “I’m not alright.” But when we can say those words to our loving and compassionate Father, He can start the healing. It’s not easy. It can be so very painful. But He works through pain. He works through messes. He brings beauty from dust and ash. God wants you to experience true joy. He loves you so much more than you can possibly imagine.
