Excerpt from my latest untitled short story:
The toes of my right foot seem to speak as they float across the sand, disturbing iridescent particles that jump and swirl under my arch and away. Whoosh, shhh shhha, Whooosh shhh shhha.
All around me the sand forms a transparent shield, defying gravity and floating up and over my head. It reverses and forms a black opalescent mound of the softest earth on the planet, and lands directly into my outstretched palms. Spreading my fingers, sieve-like in their openness, I invite the particles to rain down, around and upon my feet.
En releve, only my toes lightly gripping the sand, I slide my left foot across the glittery surface. Skating a wing span, my arms lifted across the horizon, I leap into the air. In response, the sand arcs up and off the ground, and trails behind me like a paisley sliver of the moon.
Legs lifting, torso circling, I create the appearance of something akin to ice figures, layering and overlapping each other, swirling into peaks and whorls in the sand.
