Sanddollar is a very relaxed Mud/Sea hybrid. She's very solitary but not really by choice. She'd love to have a family of her own one day but really doesn't know where to look and sometimes feels torn between her two tribes. She works mostly as an aquatic translator for mute seawings, she can't help deaf seawings because she doesn't have the glow scales to translate back to them. She's a real bleeding heart and doesn't mind helping anyone she meets and knows when someone needs help (even if they won't admit it).
I really adore your hybrid designs, they're incredible! How do you choose where to place the scales of both tribes, by trial and error, or another method? Would you mind showing how you draw each tribe?
While I'd love to eventually illustrate everything about my design and headcanon of every tribe, thats a long ways away so I can't exactly show how I draw every tribe but I can outline my process for making hybrids.
for the short version of my design process: i go with the flow between the two tribe's scales and lean more in the direction of the mother's tribe scales
for the long version:
Under the cut cause I love to ramble
So in canon, most hybrids look like their mothers (ie. Sunny and Darkstalker) so I usually have hybrids with the scale pattern from their mother's tribe.
so sanddollar is dominant mudwing, her father is a seawing
so her scale pattern is a normal mudwing's but her underbelly pattern is a seawing's
stareater is a more even mix of the 2, he is dominant nightwing, recessive hivewing
his scales are sectioned like a nightwing's but they also wrap around like a hivewing's do and if you look close, his front claws have nightwing patterning and his back claws have hivewing patterning and more obviously he only has 1 set of wings but they only have 3 fingers like a hivewing's larger pair of wings
