This is larimar. It is only found in the Caribbean, which makes sense (just look at the color and pattern) This specimen in particular looks to have been carved, sanded and polished.
Peter Drake, Black Slipping, 1985.
This headstock is sanded to 1 micron. Buffing would take it to the next level. But it’s pretty shiny ✨ This was done with ZONA 3M WetorDry Micron Graded Polishing Paper. I wish this was sponsored because I love those papers 😀 #wood #woodworking #lacquer #clear #finish #sanded #polished #workslow #getzen (at Edmonds, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJ9rAnhAQM3/?igshid=ckeihqjgv52

Roots of The Dinner Party | Feminist Flashback Friday
With the help of Judye Keyes and Sharon Kagan, Chicago’s assistant, Judy Chicago carved, sanded, painted, and fired plate after plate based on her original plans and years of ceramics and china painting study and experimentation. The combination of china painting and ceramic carving proved challenging, and plates broke more often than they survived the process.

The Extraordinary Wooden Sanded Sculptures of Cha Jongrye
Cha Jongrye’s work is the process of encountering ‘another I,’ not the familiar self. It is also the process of looking for what the Buddha called the ‘true I,’ as well as the ultimate goal of her art. This self-composed artist flatly refuses to apply any external force on her art, but chooses to understand, Cha Jongrye perceives, and finds herself, by actively moving her body and soul of her own free, voluntary will. – Tcheon-nahm PARK
