This is the first of a series of posts that cover a recent trip to #MilfordTrack bordering on #MilfordSound #NewZealand - The walk from #GladeHouse up to #SandflyPoint is THE spectacular Milford Track. They claim it is 54k but I swear it is 65k if it’s a metre. Adding on side trips and my warm up walks around #Queenstown I racked up 110k and 500+ stories of climb and descent. I witnessed several avalanches and heard many more and on top of that I was stranded in Milford (bummer!) for an extra night due to a road closure. The adventure at times was in warm sunshine, other times, in driving and bitterly cold rain and sometimes I was more like a mountain goat and other times hopping along like a school kid about to start holidays. I hope that you enjoy my ramblings and photos as I unwrap what was one of the best trips of my life..... so far !!! Landing at Queenstown Airport late on Saturday afternoon I took a short stroll to my AirBNB accomodation at Frankton. The home is all-but across the road from the Airport and just 7.5K stroll into Queenstown. I stayed here on my last trip so the choice was easy. The price was right and I was keen for a 20k warm up on Monday before heading off to hike the Milford Track. Picking up my camera I wandered to the park to suck up the Kiwi weather which was warm and welcoming. It was about 7pm when I took these shots and there was still 2 hours or so of daylight to be enjoyed .... I was so happy to have proper food, beer and coffee that I didn't care what was in front of my eyes. 26. Milford Sound, New Zealand Again in Milford Sound! Last time I was here, I felt like I came all the way here to see this on 5 hour bus ride, so perhaps my appreciation was overrated. This time my parents and I were exhausted from walking, sandfly bites, not taking shower for three days, hunger as we ate all remaining food for breakfast, plus we sprinted almost nonstop for 6 hours in order to catch earlier boat to arrive in time for Milford Sound cruise. As soon as we got onboard, we pretty much began devouring everything we see, as if we got on the boat in order to indulge stomach.
