Bluebell!! I LOVE Bluebell, he was one of my favorite characters reading the book. He's just such a funny, sillay guy, in spite of everything. I like to think his optimism and good humor is his own way of fighting back the tragedy and spitting it square in the face. Best clown.

His design shapes and colors definitely draws from bluebell flowers! I also knew I wanted to prioritize his cheerful jokester nature (over his role as an Owsla officer?? I think it's implied enough in the book that I can assume he was, even if not outright stated, but to which ???? YOU? who made you an officer?? Holly?? (maybe that makes sense actually 💀)), so I gave him big jester-hat-ish ears and rounded shapes and soft colors.

Here comes Blackberry!

I didn’t have a good reference for Blackberry, so I just went off with imagination! The spots on his back kinda look like those weird thorny things on blackberry bunches?? And his eye color and ears are colored similar to the berries because mmmm it looks nice.

And the splendiferous Bluebell!

Blue. Blue. A lot of blue. He’s a blue bean. Annnnd bad reference images from the show haha... Again, imagination. I made his eyes a brilliant blue to emphasize the flower he was named after. I had fun designing him especially haha~!

Next up: Bigwig and Strawberry

Bigwig / Thlayli! Love this dude. Had to give him hair for days, obviously. I think what I had in mind were judges with white wigs, hence his colors and his "coat" pattern... haha get it ahaha ok I'm done 💀

I never designed an aftermath version (when they finally get to live in peace!!), but maybe if there's enough interest I will? Idk! See what the people want, perhaps <3

Captain Holly!! He's been through the wringer and back I dare say... Definitely tried to incorporate holly shapes into his design. I also wanted him to look like he could easily be mistaken for the Black Rabbit of Inlé, hence the color scheme... which also tries to draw from holly colors, too.

Silver!! Threarah's nephew. Didn't think about plants so much as the idea of silver, because that was such a key detail for him, so I gave him his signature gray fur. Tried to make his shapes communicate that he was a quick, capable runner.

(side note, think the wiki is gaslighting me o_O unless it's in Tales or some other thing, Silver doesn't have an official Lapine name?? was that just made up??? If someone could quote smth official at me I'd appreciate it. For now it's definitely not in the original novel, therefore I'm not concerned. can you tell i'm not normal about this book)

Honestly I could have made him more interesting looking back, but in a cast of such colorful characters, maybe it's ok if one of them is on the simpler side 😅 although it does kind of suit him. He's very straight-to-the-point, doesn't beat around bushes or anything. Possibly underrated, I think, I'd miss him if he wasn't there. He's simple but he's a good boi :3

Blackberry!! Inspired by his namesake, as per usual. It was important to me that he felt soft, since he felt like one of the more thoughtful/gentle characters in the main group :) Thus he also gets spectacle markings, because he's the resident smartie. And he gets black-tipped ears because mister adams made sure to say so O_O

Pipkin/Hlao!! Hlao-roo. I love him so much. Dewdrop-themed, because of his Lapine name (means "a concave in grass where moisture might collect"). Hence the 💧 between his ears, and his blue-white patches.
