Sandopolis, with a sprinkling of Desert Palace
Hedgehogs Also Have Connections To The Pyramids
So we all know the Echidnas have some connect to the pyramids and possibly Egypt in the Sonic world as seen in Sandopolis Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, and Pyramid Cave from Sonic Adventure 2.
But turns out Hedgehogs also have these connections too. In Sonic The Fighters we get to see a Hedgehog Sphinx in a desert surrounded by pyramids. Written by Eris
In the Sonic and Knuckles special, Knuckles says he hates the dark.
In canon (i.e., the games), it's implied that Knuckles might be afraid of ghosts (unconfirmed).
Gotta admit, being afraid of ghosts and hating the dark do go together.
Interestingly enough, this scene in Archie takes place in Sandopolis. You know, with the ghosts that appear when the lights go out inside the pyramid. Coincidence?

Time to interrogate Anubis! I finally got around to this, a little late but I had fun with it! Anubis is a mortician, so... Nothing too different from his usual job [:

Unpopular opinion II: Sandopolis Act 2 is great and should be played with no lights at all to really feel the challenge of making your way out a deadly pyramid with unknown ancient foes Eggman only managed to catch and seal in the depths of the stage :P
I... well I can't say I agree, but I see where you're coming from :P
Sandopolis 2 is pretty much a dry Labyrinth Zone - it's slower, more puzzle-based, and there is a timer that if you let run out it will make things harder for you. Except that 1) you don't die immediately, and 2) OG Labyrinth can only dream the sheer scale of this one act.
Not turning on the lights is an interesting and easy-to-try self-imposed challenge, especially in the slower parts of the level, for example when you have to push blocks. Once you get the hang of the looping map, it could even be fun! As long as you don't get nightmares after it :P
I will agree on one thing: Act 2 > Act 1. That's just boring :P
