This Day in Environmental History – On November 1, 1986, the Sandoz Agro-Chemical Facility in Basel, Switzerland caught fire, releasing over 1,000 tons of chemicals including various pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers into the Rhine River. The release caused a major fish kill and turned the river bright red - with continued damages over 400 kilometers downriver. Historically, it is still considered one of the worst environmental disasters to occur in Europe. The cause of the fire had remained a mystery for more than a decade. However, in 2000 a former senior CIA agent claimed that it was caused by Soviet KGB agents working to distract world attention from the Chernobyl disaster that occurred several months prior

Australia: Draft legislation for testing fintech products without licence

The Australian government published draft legislation for testing fintech products without licence. The draft legislation and regulations indicates that eligible Australian fintech businesses will be able to test products and services with up to 100 customers for a maximum period of 24 months.

The Australian government has published draft legislation and regulations that will enable fintech businesses to test certain products and services for a limited period of time with retail and wholesale clients without having to obtain a financial services or credit licence.

The purpose of the Australian Financial Services Licence and the Australian Credit Licence exemption regulations is to "create a 'regulatory sandbox' to encourage and support the design and delivery of new financial and credit services that will benefit consumers and businesses", the government said in its exposure draft explanatory statement [PDF].

"The regulatory sandbox will help overcome regulatory burden and cost that may hinder businesses in developing innovative offerings," it added.

I feel ashamed to say that I never played Far Cry (Ok not really) but I will say that this new Far Cry has piqued my interest quite a bit. The idea of setting the game back in time is an ironic twist on the games name as it steps away from the present day to have players venture into very distant past. How distant? 100,000 BC distant actually. Rajman Gaming on Youtube has given us the first part of the game’s story mode, as we see our protagonist(s) hunting of all things wild mammoths.

Can I just say how gorgeous these graphics are, coupled with the sound and obviously made up language which for some reason seems right, even though no one knows how communication worked back then in terms of language. At least they strayed away from the horrible stereotype of grunts. So the question is, are you interested in the game?
