I’ve been working on the Sandpaperian alphabet! :D Don’t mind the empty columns, I was going to put lowercase letters there but generally they tend to just look like a smaller version of their corresponding uppercase letters.

There’s a website that lets you make your own font, if I can find a way to make that work then I’d be happy to send that here as well.

I’d also like to note that this is not the full version of the alphabet, however there wasn’t a good way to represent the full list of characters with a standard keyboard. I plan on making a post with the remaining Sandpaperian letters, as well as some examples of unique characters that show up in the texts.

That’s all for now though! You’re all free to use this if you’d like, no credit needed. Nintendo didn’t really bother to make a proper, functioning alphabet so I tried organizing what I had to go with. Some of the texts are even repeated with completely different translations…

Hello everyone! I apologize for not posting anything recently, I’ve been in other shifts for the most part. I would like to say, however, that I haven’t forgotten about Sandpaperian!

I’ve concluded that it was more than likely an abjad with some logography thrown in, similarly to Egyptian Hieroglyphics. An abjad is a writing system that has letters for consonants, but none for vowels (or, alternatively, an impure abjad has optimal vowel diacritics). Some examples of abjads are Hebrew, Arabic, and Farsi! However, while most abjads are written from right to left, Sandpaperian seems to be written from left to right.

I’ll continue to look into this. I know that realistically Sandpaperian was probably just thrown together by Nintendo and I’m connecting dots that aren’t there, but constellations are unrelated dots that people haphazardly connected and we still enjoy them today! Who’s to say we can’t have a little fun?
