Queen of the Pacific Sandra Avila Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking in Miami
Known as Queen of the Pacific, Sandra Avila Beltran has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking in Miami that is directly tied to the drug issue in Mexico and Colombia. The 52-year-old drug queen pleaded guilty to the charges, closing the chapter as the infamous woman cocaine smuggler.

On Tuesday in Federal Court, Sandra Avila admitted that she helped her ex-boyfriend, the infamous Juan Diego Espinosa Ramirez, evade prosecution for cocaine charges of importation and distribution in the U.S. After Ramirez was captured and found guilty, the Queen of the Pacific pleased guilty to being an accessory.
Sandra Avila became well-known throughout the world as one of the few women who dominated the drug trafficking industry. Avila avoided the life sentence that may have been attached to her former boyfriend’s charges with her plea and now faces up to 15 years in prison. Moreover, the Queen of the Pacific is expected to receive a much lesser sentence that includes 6 years time served in Mexico before she was extradited to the states.
Howard Schumacher, lawyer for Avila, told reporters:
“Both sides felt the charge of accessory after the fact would be reflective of a fair and just result.”
Queen of the Pacific decided to comply with a plea deal after a federal magistrate judge denied her lawyer’s request for a dismissal of the indictment. Sandra Avila is well-known for her influence over the Sinaloa cartel and her romantic relations with Colombian drug trafficker Ramirez.
In Mexico, many were in awe of Avila and treated her like a celebrity, keeping up with her taste in high fashion and beauty secrets. While placed in custody in 2007, it was not until last summer when Mexico granted her extradition to the United States.
Sandra Avila was implicated in a Colombian shipment of nine tons of cocaine intended for Mexico and the U.S. back in 2001.
