He’d been withdrawn and snappish during the campaign, too. “Where is Lion El’Jonson?” Sanguinius asks formally. “He’s entered seclusion in his chambers, Lord Sanguinius. He won’t see anyone.” Lion El'Jonson has an extremely unfortunately-timed heat. Or maybe it's fortunate after all.

Seeking signs of eagle’s wings on the horizon. Waiting. Sanguinius receives a worrying communique from Lion El'Jonson, not long after their mating tryst. Fearing the worst, injury or attack, he commands his fleet to Caliban to see what has befallen his beloved. The problem with Astropathic messages is they don't allow for much nuance.
