I think more writers that put mind control or brainwashing in their stories should consider it a spectrum based on how different someone becomes. On one end a character’s personality is unchanged aside from the fact they’re working for the villain side. On the other end you have stuff like Splatoon’s sanitization where all of the character’s individuality is erased, becoming an empty husk carrying out orders
