Felt like experimenting with Mariana. I enjoy drawing these guys in the cartoon-ier style, but every once in awhile I return to my 'roots'.

Trial boss of the Hadelpelagic zone

Codename: Minotaur

Old name: scrubbed

Designation: 007 of the defunct Mythos boss line

Heavily modified in order to use special weapon designated as 'Ink Beserker'. This axe is far too heavy for the average octo or inkling to wield in normal circumstances. Requiring heavy amounts of ink and immense strength.

I imagine fighting Hadel would be similar to the oct samurai in that it's a very close combat battle on her part.

Some basic doodles of the attack patterns. Phase one being an ink wall maze. You have to avoid running into Hadel while trying to make it to the center. Here there will be a switch to lower the ink walls back into the floor, creating a proper arena.

Then starts phase two with area spins as well as the dash & slam. There are still ink walls around the edge of the area, creating a cage with you and Hadel trapped inside. Overall easy to avoid if you can move quick and utilize the sliding bombs well.

Phase three is when the dash attacks start. Every few attacks she'll wildly charge, coated with ink in a way that both acts as armor and a dangerous attack if caught in her path. There's little to no chance of damaging her when she's in this wild state. It's best to run for it the the best you can and stay out of the way until she stops. Where she'll be temporarily stunned for a few moments. This is the best time to deal damage to close out the final phase.

Of course, when Pacific and Mariana do this, Mariana snipes the shades off and takes Hadel with them. It wasn't easy getting her out of the trial zone, but they managed. They had to leave the Ink Beserker behind as it was too dangerous to just let Hadel carry it around in her constantly dazed and forgetful state. Neither Pacific or Mariana could carry such a heavy weapon. So for the time being if needed, Hadel fights with her fists. The hard metal is more then enough for most situations.

So I had the idea of Mariana and Hadel being of more German origin. Originally, it was going to be much more subtle. With maybe accents and names. Theeen my friend @daschantal05 offered to collaborate with me on this one. Helping me translate and 'localize' Hadel's lines. It was super fun working on this! Thanks a bunch, couldn't have done it without you. It was so much fun going back and forth with ya.

First of the midnight zone trial bosses

Trial codename: Harpy

Real name: Sechs of the defunct Mythos bossline

There aren't going to be doodles for this one as most of it can be explained easily. The arena is littered with towers resembling those that salmonid create for stingers, lacking the head of course. These towers are where Sechs perches and takes aim. The first phase consists of taking out the towers so she had no stable vantage point. All while she uses high charge sniper attacks, much stronger then that of the normal charger. Once all the towers have been taken out, damage can be done. Though the towers will soon be reassembled so you have to act quickly. Close to mid range weapons are best for this.

The second phase is when she begins to use her 'wings'. Functioning similary to ink packs used on the surface. You should be careful not to be caught in the high power streams. Adding ink missiles into her attack patterns. She cannot stay in the air forever, so the priority is still destroying the towers before she can perch.

During the third phase she adds high power suction bombs as well as the other two attacks. Attempting to overwhelm the trial takers and reduce available ground. Pushing them into open spots where she can then take aim.

When they first take the trial, Sechs appears indifferent to the presence of her younger siblings. Not acknowledging them as such, instead treating them like any trial takers. Throughout the fight Mariana of course attempts to reach out, not remembering everything that happened before. Sechs is unresponsive until the last phase where it all comes pouring out.

Accusatory and angry, blaming Mariana and Hadel for her being trapped in the city. After the event leading to their progenitor's demise, the rest of the eight siblings were forbidden from reaching the surface. Though they'd never been told the whole story, just what had happened and the punishment that followed. It takes time, but Mariana is eventually able to get through to her.

Sechs does not join their ragtag caravan to the surface, but Mariana promises to come back for her and the rest of the Mythos line. Not wanting to leave them in the Metro city forever.
