Reggio Emilia (Emilia). Basilica of San Prospero (1514). Piazza San Prospero. Renaissance and Baroque. San Prospero is the patron saint of Reggio Emilia, lived in the 5th century and was bishop of the city. The church was rebuilt on the ruins of another namesake of 997. The exterior is characterized by statues of red marble lions and on the façade, those of 11 saints. On the right of the facade stands the octagonal bell tower. It is run by the Benedictines who lead to the rear of the convent.
