ever since i was little, i’ve had this headcanon that cinderella’s slipper is itself magical - because of course it is, the fairy godmother created the shoes specifically for her - and this is why it won’t fit any of the other maidens of the kingdom, because the only person it can possibly fit is cinderella herself.

if you pay attention, the glass slipper is really tiny in the animation of the disney film (it’s smaller than the grand duke’s hand), which just furthered this theory, because i assumed the slipper shrunk down and would remain that way until it was slipped back onto cinderella’s foot again.

I adore the word lovely because it is applicable as both a trait and an aesthetic, as inherent and apparent.

someone or something can be lovely outwardly or lovely inwardly (or both). you may call someone ‘lovely’ as a descriptor or as a direct term of endearment. (’they are lovely’ ; ‘hello, lovely’).

it applies to all the senses: something may be lovely to see, lovely to hear, lovely to feel, lovely to taste, lovely to smell. or it may be intangible/transcendent and lovely in spirit.

I enjoy using it because for some reason it just always connotes a feeling of soft daydreamy lightness and good things.

this world is often harsh and cruel and terrible, but it’s so nice to recognize that not all of it is. there are lovely songs and books and blankets and sweets. there are lovely people, places, things, and they tend to happen in the pauses, in the quietude which exists between the beats of the harder moments.

today may be one of those hard moments. I hope it isn’t. but whether or not it is, remember there is something lovely outside of you, and something lovely inside of you, too.
