fic exchanges are fun! let's talk about the tokyo lift

then you might like the tokyo lift! the lift's origin story begins in 1997 when a top secret highly redacted event ruptured the space-time continuum. in his resulting attempts to understand the event (and the strange vision it led him to have), a young stijn strongbody sought answers, and ultimately formed a blaseball team to help him get closer to some of the oddities of the universe.
nowadays, the lift are all about wellness, whether that's physical, mental, or emotional. we don't have captains (anymore - we've had four in the past, two died and one got redacted so it didn't turn out, like, great for us) and we're really just trying to get by. also our stadium is a giant skyscraper with a lazarus pit underneath
some of my personal favorite lift lore hooks, other than tokyo adrift the really sick pirate au, include the following:
resident scientist/alien elwin mcghee, who spent years studying dimensional realities... and immediately took the first out that they could find, leaving an alternate to take their place and abandoning the team and the friends they made
domino and theo, a robot/human married couple that has had a very, very longstanding fight about their involvement in blaseball (see hen's incredible fic here)
did you know that the lift were involved in one third of the expansion era shellings?
did you know that cudi di batterino experienced the lift's first real weather event when he had an allergic reaction, and is now shelled at the end of the world?
silvaire semiquaver is awesome. her most common irm is that she is a musical and artistic savant, a noted art thief, and a shadow walker (who might be part shadow herself) (and definitely has a fraught relationship with my guy val hitherto). two other very cool irms are that she is a minor goddess of partying and that she is a cartographer who got lost in the non-euclidean depths of the legscraper and is very, VERY frazzled about being back out
