Top 3 kits from each grand slam this year? (or just a slam of your choosing)
sleepover saturday asks
Okay so this was hard bc I've felt like the biggest fake tennis fan in the first half of the year (especially since so many people on my dash have gotten into tennis this year) bc I've just been so out of the loop. But on the flipside, looking up all the kits from the slams was fun!
These will all be in a random order bc as we know I hate picking outright faves
Australian Open
Marta Kostyuk - This is just fun. I really enjoy the warm-toned red paired with the light blue court (as I'm gonna discuss for other kits, I like it when the colour is intentionally picked to compliment or stand out against the main court colour). I like the white piping detailing too!
Ben Shelton - I prefer this version compared to Swiatek's just bc the fit is nicer. But as a gradient/ombre enjoyer this is just maximum whimsy and also kinda looks like a sunset. More bright colours in tennis kits pls
Destanee Aiava - I mean the circumstances of her having to think outside the box bc she didn't have a kit sponsor for the Australian Open sucks, athletes shouldn't have to fight to wear proper kits no matter the sport. That aside, I think that her re-wearing second hand kits was a great move because re-wearing things frequently should be normalised more and she made some amazing choices!
French Open
Frances Tiafoe - He's lowkey carried the men's kit fashion this year. Case in point being this kit being one of the first to pop into my head when I saw this ask. The shade of blue both looks so good on him and against the burnt orange clay courts, and it being full monochrome just gives a really clean and polished look without being boring. This is a solid 10/10 no notes, he just looks fantastic.
Naomi Osaka - One of THE kits of the 2025 season. I love that Naomi had some design input and I love how the cherry blossom inspiration didn't just stop at the dress, but included her hair clips too. It adds to the overall look for me. I love the tiered skirt that emulated the sakura petals and the shade of pink is just so pretty.
Coco Gauff - I love what I'm just calling the smoke kits (the pictured light grey is the day kit variant, and she also had a black night kit variant) which were paired with a very badass leather style jacket. Again, I like how the colour contrasts with the clay court, and I think that the smoke detailing was executed really well! I also enjoy the pale coloured shoes with the grey detailing just to add a nice pop of brightness that doesn't detract from the whole outfit.
Wimbledon
Sonay Kartal - I could put all Adidas kits here honestly, they absolutely hit it out the park with their Wimbledon kits. This one however was my favourite because of the dark green detailing and the translucent diamonds which was the most fun take on the dress code mandated tennis whites. It's so subtle but it just works. I would honestly wear this top with zero hesitation.
Coco Gauff - LOOK AT WHAT THE GREAT ROUND 1 SEED CULLING OF WIMBLEDON 2025 TOOK FROM US 😭
Does the top and skirt not quite go together? Not really. Do I care? Not really.
The macrame style embroidery on the top is just so, so, so stunning (and different!!! I've never seen a kit like this.). It includes flowers, butterflies, and because it was Wimbledon - strawberries. I also love the bow in her hair, it really adds to the look as a whole. Again, this is a really unique look on tennis whites and proves that monochrome kits don't have to be boring.
Alex Eala - More of a sentimental choice here, but it's one that's stuck with me through the tennis season. In July Alex became the first tennis player from the Philippines to compete in the main draw at Wimbledon, and to celebrate the occasion her apparel sponsor Nike gifted her a hair tie which she wore on court featuring the sampaguita - the national flower of The Philippines (which also came in a very beautiful as seen on her instagram). And while looking up pictures for this I learned that she won her first ever WTA title at the Guadalajara Open this week - Good for her!!!!!
US Open
Frances Tiafoe - Just to confirm my earlier point about him carrying men's draw fashion: this kit. I love the pink-toned red just because it's something different than a primary red, and the tiger print motif is just really fun. I like this his trainers were white with the same pinky-red accents as opposed to being full monochrome - in this case it helps to complement the white brand logos on his kit and add a small pop of brightness just to balance everything out.
Venus Williams - Another sentimental choice from her singles draw attire (which, also look up her doubles draw outfits because they were all incredible). This kit was intentionally reminiscent of what tennis players used to wear back in the 50s and 60s as a tribute to a tribute to Althea Gibson - the first ever black tennis player to win a Grand Slam at the 1956 French Open, who also won the US Open in 1957 and 1958. As the official US Open 2025 tournament poster also paid tribute to the 75th anniversary of Althea Gibson first competing at the US Open, I think this was a very beautiful kit to honour her legacy.
Taylor Townsend - Taylor created her own apparel label after her contract with Nike expired this year (which, please give the Number 1 ranked double player some respect). All of her kits have been designed in collaboration with fashion designer Alexander John and during her amazing run in the singles draw, she got to wear various different kit designs. Of all her US Open kits this one is my favourite. I love the green pleated skirt as a pop of colour against the blue Flushing Meadows courts. As a whole the outfit has a really nice colour palette and I like that it's a two piece kit that's more harmonious than matchy matchy.
