Arranged Marriage - open
What was originally going to be a closed starter I’m going to open up. If there are any Simon Lewis roleplayers out there that want to roleplay an arranged marriage thing with me, I’m definitely open to it. here is my starting post, and if you want to discuss additional details my inbox is open!! ((side note, my other posts will likely not average this length, more like 2 or 3 paragraphs)).
“Excuse me?” Raphael is sure he heard her wrong. The lack of sleep must have him hallucinating, he should really excuse himself to sleep now. It was already long past his bedtime, the sun high in the sky. They had at least covered up the floor to ceiling windows for him but the sun must still be messing with his senses because there was no way he heard that right.
“A marriage Mr.Santiago. To ensure your commitment to this new partnership between the institute and the New York Clan. Clarissa Fairchild, Jocelyn Fairchild’s daughter, has already agreed to the arrangement.”
Raphael stared back at Inquisitor Herondale, a headache blooming as he resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her. He finds himself thinking once again that he should have let someone else take the mantle of leader. He’d only been head of the clan for little over a week now and it’s already more trouble than it’s worth.
“I fail to see how marrying Valentine’s daughter cements anything between us. My word should be more than enough. I have done nothing to warrant this mistrust from the Clave.” he says through clenched teeth, sick of the Clave and their holier-than-thou attitude.
“The New York clan has been toeing the line of the accords, it is out of control. The debacle with the mundane-”
“Camille alone broke the accords. Toeing the line is not crossing it. As soon as she broke them, I turned her over to you to keep the peace. I think that alone should prove I have no interest in breaking the rules or letting anyone else get away with it,” Raphael nearly hisses. He’s always played by their oppressive rules, it was Camille who broke them and now he was paying for them. This is complete bullshit.
“Be that as it may, it has been decided that there should be a union between our people,” Herondale sniffs, and Raphael sneers at her.
“I thought you looked down on marriage between a downworlder and a shadowhunter, afraid that our demon blood will taint your precious Nephilim.”
The Inquisitor has a pinched look to her face now, like she’s sucking on a lemon. “Times are… changing. Things between downworlders and the Nephilim are not quiet as black and white as believed before. The downworld was instrumental in the take down of Valentine, and the Clave has recognized that a new age of trust between our worlds is beginning. There are new accords underway, and the case to overrule the law against marrying downworlders was overturned this morning.”
Raphael’s gaze flicks over to Magnus, who had been actively working to make his case at the court in Idris so he can marry his Shadowhunter beau. Magnus at least looks a little guilty, playing at inspecting his nails when Raphael looks at him. A little warning would have been nice, but he realizes from the shiny new ring on Magnus’ ring finger the warlock had bigger things going on.
“I want a seat on the council,” Raphael counters, and Herondale smiles coldly at him.
“Very well. If you marry Clarissa Fairchild, you shall be given a seat at the meetings.” Raphael personally thinks as the leader of one of the largest vampire clans he should have already had a seat on said council but he keeps his mouth shut. He’s not thrilled at having to marry a shadowhunter, but it could be worse. He’s met the Fairchild girl before and while she is annoying, she has a good heart. She didn’t grow up with the prejudices against the downworld that most Nephilim do.
“Name the date,” he says, and ignores the pitying looks he can feel coming from Magnus. Herondale is opening her mouth to reply when they are all interrupted by the doors to the room bursting open. They all turn to look at the interruption.
