When Rebecca and Simon Lewis were 8 and 5 their parents died in the crosshairs of some downworlder disagreement. One of the first people to show up on the scene was Magnus Bane. He takes Simon and Rebecca back to his lair before the Shadowhunters show up. He’s not sure what to do with the two. Realistically he knows that he should erase their memories and send them to an orphanage, but he doesn’t really want to do that. So instead he calls up his good friend Tessa Gray to help him figure out what to do. When Tessa meets them she decides to adopt them. The Clave don't know that she adopted them because the only Shadowhunter that she interacts with anymore is Brother Zachariah.
Growing up the two learn about the Shadow World. They call Magnus, Uncle Magnus. They learn Latin and Edomese growing up. (I also like to think that Magnus and Tessa teach them as many languages as they can) They still go to mundane school, For all the mundane stuff Tessa goes by Teresa Lewis. She uses a glamour around the teachers and other parents to make it seem like she is aging. Simon meets Clary when he is 6 and they immediately hit it off. Simon doesn’t tell Clary about the Shadow world because he and Rebecca were taught from a young age how important it is to keep it a secret. When Tessa and Jocelyn meet, they automatically realize what the other is. They talk and agree to keep it a secret from the children, and not to rat the other out to the Clave.
When Simon is 13 he meets Alec. His parents had been saying some pretty homophobic stuff, and Alec decided that he needed to get out. So he leaves the Institute by himself for the first time. He quickly finds himself lost. Simon sees him, and immediately recognizes him as a Shadowhunter. He approaches him, and asks what a Shadowhunter is doing wandering lost around the city. Alec tenses up, but Simon quickly reassures him that he means no harm and invites him for coffee at a nearby cafe. Simon tells him that he has known about the Shadow world most of his life because his adoptive mother is a downworlder. He doesn’t tell Alec Tessa’s name in case he rats her out to the Clave. They sit and talk for awhile, and at the end Simon offers to walk Alec back, and gives him his number. After that they start texting, and meeting up when not busy.
When Simon is 16, he meets Raphael for the first time. They slowly become friends. They end up meeting up weekly so that Raphael can get away from the clan for a little bit, and so Simon can make a new friend. After a few months Alec accidentally drops in on one of their meetings. He makes it clear he doesn’t trust Raphael, but it’s not like Simon ever listened to him. At one point Simon gets up to go to the bathroom and Alec gives Raphael the shovel talk. When Simon is 18 Raphael officially asks him out. Simon smiles and says “finally.” He then makes some stupid joke that Raphael smacks him on the head for, but Simon just smiles and pulls him into a kiss.
When he turns 18, he is given something that makes it so he can see through the glamour (or whatever it is, I forget the name). When Rebecca turns 18, she gets the same thing. Or you could make it so that Magnus or Tessa made it so that they could see through it from a young age, again I don’t really care. Or maybe they were born with the Sight.
I have no particular feelings about how Clary’s birthday goes, but I do want Simon to acknowledge his friendship with Alec when he tells Clary that he knows. Like he goes “Yes I see them. Hey Alec” and to which Alec just nods at him. Then Izzy and Jace give them both confused looks because while Izzy knew Alec had a mundane friend, neither of them were expecting him to be friends with this mundane.
And I love Tessa so throughout all of this, I would like to see her bonding with her adopted children. Or he being the supportive amazing mother that she is. And Magnus being the eccentric uncle that babysits for Tessa. Like, I get that this is a pretty Simon centric fic, but please add some motherly Tessa, and eccentric Uncle Magnus, and annoying big sister Rebecca. I also wouldn’t mind if you threw in a little Jem Carstairs too.

June 9th: Favorite Ship w/ An Asexual: Saphael/Raphael Santiago x Simon Lewis from Shadowhunters
Eeeeeeee! So okay, I never read The Mortal Instruments series, I’m only familiar with the movie and more importantly the tv show from Freeform. The show/story had alot of pairings available to choose from canon & otherwise, but I could just never get the possibility of these two out of my mind. First of all, I absolutely adored Raphael basically every step of the way (even more so when his asexuality was confirmed) and tbh I just enjoyed the character so much that there wasn’t a dynamic he was involved in that I didn’t enjoy. However, Raphael’s dynamic with baby!vamp Simon Lewis was by far my favorite. I think, the actors just had some good chemistry to work with and some fun scenes/storylines together and the undercurrent of their relationship just held loads of romantic potential. Anytime they were on screen together the show was better for it. It’s a shame that this ship never got to see canon, but I still have alot of love for the pairing, the show, and the actors, regardless.
