Ava was in love with Lieutenant Beatrice Lin-Watson of Golden Fire Department Station 3. She was. It was understandable— forgivable— that she was.

How could she not be? When Bea finally put words to this thing between them, tears of joy rose in her eyes. When Beatrice smiled softly, contented and accepting as the words left her mouth, her cheeks turned a beautiful shade of pink. When she should be doing her job but is instead hiding in an Engine with you confessing her love, she squeezes your hand softly and breathes as if it was her very first breath. When Beatrice tells you that she loves you, the golden reflection of her eyes makes you feel like the richest person in the world.

So, yeah. Ava was in love with Beatrice. And the fact that she could openly admit that now was the greatest thing to ever happen to her.

hey friends and readers, thanks for being patient about updates lately! life has been wild for me for a hot minute! some updates for you:

next firefighter au chapter will be out early next week. we have a tentative final chapter count of 16 (we are getting close to the end 🥹). it might go up or down by one or two depending on how writing goes but the general length is set :)

actors au: once the firefighter au is done, this will start updating more often again! i’m aiming for twice a week starting mid-august or so.

what’s up next? well that’s the big thing! i have a new project that i have been working very hard on with a wonderful friend of mine (and i’m sure some of you have read their fics 😋😋) that i am so so so excited to share with y’all! no more details than that yet but just know that i make this face 🥹🥹 every time i work on it and i think y’all will love it 😊

“You know, I have to say,” Ava began as she stabbed her fork much too aggressively into the container on her lap. Beatrice noticed the way she was actively searching for a bite with the best toppings and as little lettuce as possible. “I am surprised you picked the caesar salad.”

Between bites, Beatrice furrowed her brow. “Why?”

“I thought you would pick the…” Ava lifted her fork to show the bright red strawberry she had picked out, “fruity one.”

“Because I’m…?”

“Fruity, yes,” Ava finished before taking the fork into her mouth, a smirk on her lips.

“Ava, you are also gay,” Beatrice replied incredulously.

“I’m not sure what your point is.”

yes, i did purposely align my day off with the release of four new taylor swift songs so i can include them in the next chapter (i didn’t, but i might)

anyway, we’re getting close to the end! chapter 39 of “What If I Told You I’m A Mastermind?” on AO3 now!

Beatrice refused to teach Ava the horrible things that Beatrice’s parents taught her. Instead, Beatrice would do everything in her power to protect Ava from the voices that implore, “you should be doing more,” while they trespass on private property to take pictures Ava and Beatrice didn’t consent to. Beatrice showed Ava that the greatest of luxuries is her secrets.

And Ava had shown Beatrice how to handle it— beautifully. Ava fought for their joy after they both broke. Time and time again, Ava reminded Beatrice that the wounds would heal. It only feels this raw right now, Beatrice was learning. With Ava, she could breathe through it and get to the other side.

They found their perfect balance. Beatrice taught Ava how to get through it. Ava taught Beatrice how to get past it.

That’s what made Beatrice a bundle of contradictions. She was this combination of focus and distraction, grounded and floating in the clouds, sunshine and midnight rain.

So, that’s how, despite the overwhelming amount of attention Beatrice received today, the horrible photographer, losing control of her emotions for hours, and a yelling match with her best friend, Beatrice was on the other side of it— happy. That’s how, despite the exhaustion that settled deep within her soul, Beatrice still had the energy to love the one person her heart beat for.

Right now, that looked like falling to her knees in a steam-filled bathroom and teasing Ava until she begged, “Your mouth. Please, baby. Use your mouth on me.” And who was Beatrice to deny her?
