From the Museum’s artifact collection:
Daniel Bernstein (1897-1935), a dentist and World War I veteran. Daniel received an appointment to West Point in 1921, but resigned after a year due to “lack of funds.” He was only 38 when he died due to complications in surgery. His obituary in the Judaic Union Bulletin described him as a confident and generally light-hearted fellow.
Family lore tells that Daniel’s father Henry was orphaned at a young age and raised by his grandparents in what was then Palestine. After traveling in his youth, he and his wife emigrated from Russia. He had a cigar shop in Philadelphia and raised three children: Daniel, Mitchell, and Sarah.
