Cryptid Quick Reviews: Reaper’s Justice (Shadow Reapers #1)
(Cryptid’s Note: I will admit that this review is heavily biased and based on my own personal opinions. While there is nothing wrong with casual sex, as someone who wishes to support those one the aromantic and asexual spectrums, I must say that the idea of lust being the same as romantic love is inherently toxic. While I understand that as queer individual, I am in no way this book’s target audience [that being straight middle aged women], however as a monsterfucker, I believe it is my duty to warn my fellow queer monsterfuckers of what they’re getting into before they get their hands on this book.)
Author: Sarah McCarty
Genre(s): Paranormal Romance, Historical Romance, Werewolf, Western
Personal Rating: 2/10
Comments:
To call myself disappointed with this book would be an understatement.
I opened up this book, expecting a lovely story about a traumatized outcast finding a sense of normalcy in the one person who showed them kindness, which just so happened to involve the drama and excitement of your typical westerns and werewolf stories. What I got was a misogynistic mess of stalking, instalove, the “taming” of a wild man, and the toxic idea that “true love” is based on a mutual desire to fuck.
While the quality of the prose itself was well done, the story itself leaves much to be desired, with both protagonists having supposedly “fallen in love” within the span of two weeks at most, leaving little room for genuine bonding (and I mean OUTSIDE of fucking) between their first encounter and the chapter in which they finally (or rather, prematurely) attempt to perform the process of courting. The book itself takes place over the span of what could at most be three weeks, at the end of which, both protagonists dedicate their lives to each other. Between the sex scenes, action scenes, and fight scenes, and genuine moments of bonding, Reaper’s Justice spends more time focusing on the protagonists’ desire to fuck that the development of the actual “romantic” relationship which is meant to be the backbone of the story.
If you liked the appeal Twilight’s toxic relationships, but thought that it should just do away with vampires and fully embrace riding the alpha male’s dick, this shallow erotica hidden under the thinly veiled guise of a western love story is perfect for you!
My Final Note:
Sarah McCarty may write a decent sex scene, but if I find out that she’s placed the phrase, “Her womb clenched” in anything else she’s written, I’m going to have a fucking aneurysm.

Ace's Wild (Hell's Eight, #7) by Sarah McCarty
Ace's Wild by Sarah McCarty My rating: 3 of 5 stars I like Hell's eight, I followed their series from the beginning and I'm fond of the characters, Ace has always been one of my favorite, but I'm glad we got near the end, because somehow the series, over time, has lost its luster and is no longer sizzling as it once was. THANKS TO NETGALLEY AND HARLEQUIN FOR THE PREVIEW! View all my reviews
