Back when Oleanna came out, I worked with the wonderful @sarawenoflindon to develop a perfume oil based on the book.
This perfume is reminiscent of the late Victorian and Edwardian age! Violets, lemon blossom, and rich wood notes hover over the freshness of deep lakes and vast oceans - a very feminine floral and woodsy aquatic blend. Outdoorsy, yet elegant!
It is absolutely lovely, if I do say so myself, and she still sells it in her Etsy store! All of her scents are super cool, and all vegan, alcohol-free, and cruelty free.
I get nothing from any sales, I just think it’s super cool that she’s still selling it!
Ok, so it's been quite a while since I reviewed any Sarawen scents. So I'm still technically working on my very first order of samples then. Back to Cake or Death, which I picked because it was a pleasant-sounding gourmand.
Notes: Cake, allspice, cream frosting, amber
In the bottle: Ah. I see still why I said initially it smells like mustard. There's a chemically component here which is probably the allspice and cream frosting combining in an unfortunate way.
Wet: Still get that pickle smell on first application, but there is a vanilla frosting undertone to it. Perhaps also the amber as well, which I'm assuming is the base here.
Dry down: I smell vanilla here, but the light type of vanilla that some companies use to give their perfumes a "fizziness." I'm guessing it's a very synthetic vanilla, and that's really all I'm smelling for a while. For a brief moment, this blossoms into something closer to cream soda, but then it has faded so fast, there isn't time to see how this might develop. I think this has dried almost completely to the amber base, but it's so faint I can't be sure.
Sillage/Longevity: Extremely low sillage. I had to strain to smell this on my wrist, even though I dabbed quite a lot on to test. It doesn't last very long either; within about fifteen minutes, this is almost impossible to detect.
Verdict: Skip this. It's only been a year since I received this sample, and so I can't imagine the oil has expired or gone bad (I suppose you never know). But this is gone so fast, I don't even have time to figure out whether it develops enough to ignore the pickle stage. I suppose also given that it even has a pickle stage…I should destash this no matter what.
In a dark mansion alone, but within a room made pretty by the vases of lavender and carnation flowers, she looks out upon snow-laden peaks. She unfurls a lace handkerchief, and the scent of comforting vanilla and rosemary leaves brings to her warm memories of happier times. This scent is inspired by Edith Cushing from Crimson Peak, and is a creamy floral herb fragrance.
Main notes: lavender, warm vanilla, carnation flowers, violets, rosemary
♥ As always, vegan and cruelty-free perfume from Sarawen ♥
