(don’t mind me, i am collecting all y’all’s house info OKAY) (edit: also i am noticing a trend, what is this)

first off: SO MANY of my ravenclaw friends were sorted into gryffindor via pottermore?? i currently only know one person who was actually a pottermore ravenclaw, which is fascinating?? 

second: the “only allowed to complete the sorting ceremony once” stipulation to pottermore, and the “high stakes” feel of it being the “official” harry potter sorting were both reasons why i avoided taking it for so long. :P 

i’ve always been a slytherin, in all of the quizzes and ALSO IN MY HEART, and if pottermore was going to try to tell me otherwise, i was gonna ignore the whole thing and start quoting every line i ever read about the real sorting hat taking preference into account, lol. i didn’t end up having to argue with it because it sorted me into slytherin anyway, but the last twenty-four hours has been such a whirlwind of discussion with so many people.

EDIT: it is also FASCINATING because one of the little girls i’ve been babysitting for four years just started reading harry potter (she’s starting to read it in the same grade that i was in when i started reading it 😭❤️🙌🏼) and SHE is currently oBSESSED with sorting all of her other third grade friends into houses, and so we’ve been having legit discussions about how some sorting “quizzes” online are too transparent or leading or might not actually be good indicators of a person’s values or house assignments, etc. 

she is very proud to be a gryffindor, and has memorized a dozen questions from online quizzes that she doles out to her classmates in the hallway before the morning bell and interprets them herself, and then she and her classmates have discussions about what their answers could mean and “maybe they have a little bit of ravenclaw in them, but they’re mostly hufflepuff,” and when i told her i was a slytherin this morning she flipped her fucking lid. 😂  we ended up looking up the word “ambitious” and discussing how it was not a synonym for “evil,” THANK YOU JK ROWLING, i have spent years dissecting and debating slythering house values, so now i am clearly prepared to have a Very Serious Intellectual Conversation with my third grader about the matter, you think i am joking but i am not.

Have you read "Beast" by Donna Jo Napoli? If so, can I ask what you thought of it?

I have a weird relationship with “Beast”. I want to like it, and I’ve given it a number of chances but I just….don’t. I have this feeling about most of Napoli’s books. The Denoument always seems rushed, and her attention to the mechanics and specifics of things can bleed the magic out of stories.

Also, whenever I bring this book up, people go “oh, right, the one where she has sex with a lion.” Which…doesn’t happen, but I can see why people keep thinking it does.

I think we had a long talk about Beast back when we had the message board…But I’m super bitter! What about you? Did you enjoy it?
