that's theivin', stealin'...
peter didn't expect to be sitting on the floor, with his head in his hands when he made the very mature decision to deep clean his apartment. peter decided, after 4 months in this life size lego block of an apartment, that he needed to make it more home-y. what he didn't expect was to find a tacky box filled with trinkets of his past life–before strange's spell, before mysterio, when everything was just perfect. in it he found a very odd array of things, ranging from his old spiderman costume–that he had made out of his and uncle ben's old clothes–to a polaroid of him and ned in washington for a decathlon, back in their junior year when ned had appointed himself his guy in the chair to a necklace he had made for you out of a guitar pic, your old organic chemistry notes, your novels, your rings, your hoodie. everything he had in that box was just yours. peter absolutely despised it. he had tried, very very hard, these past four months to move on and he convinced himself he was making progress but the next thing he knew, his cold apartment floor was covered in cold reminders of you. every belonging of yours elicited a different memory, prompting peter to get up and walk away from this torture.
peter laid wide awake that night, just wondering about all of his things you might still have. the earrings he got you when you were both in junior high or the broken black dahlia necklace or his 'the physics is theoretical but the fun is real' t shirt that you adored. does your heart also flip when you look at his things? do you, through the haze of the forgetting spell, remember his scent? do you feel something missing when you wear out his MIT hoodie? do you remember the taste of his lips when you take a sip of your morning coffee from his cup? or is this another form of suffering mysterio designed just for him? all peter knows is that he will miss a few of his clothes but he'd rather you have every single thing he owns just as a proof of his existence. even a split second of recognition in your eyes when you see him will be enough to last peter a lifetime, but he had stopped hoping the second he swung away from you and ned at the statue of liberty four months ago.
now, peter doesn't care if you miss these things or not–because he knows you don't, how could you? they must have been erased from your heart just like he was–all he knows is you left a lot of stuff in his apartment, and you're never coming to get it back.
...taking what's not yours
(notes: this is a lot more sad than the song is, the song is not sad at all, but anyways, I've wanted to write something for this song and my man peter so here it is!)
