oh god the casting of the sand snakes annoys me so much, i like none of the picks, the actress playing tyene is okay because at least it's not a white blonde, but giving her double daggers is so dumb, and Nym! i know they're all mixed race and diverse but Nym is dORNISH, there's never been an east asian in asoiaf (my headcannon is that Yi Ti is east asia) and obara's casting isn't racially flawed but physically, WHERE IS SARELLA??? i hate this show

Yeah the Sand Snakes/Dorne casting is just like really weird. It's just like racial continuity doesn't exist whaat? Like this was one of the few areas that was really heavy on poc reps and it got totally thrown out the window. I mean each of the Sand Snakes descriptions are really varied so that's probably why there's no consistency, but I mean if they're going to ignore Daario's description why are they so insistent here? I'm fine with Nym being half-Chinese (or the GoT equivalent) as long as the thought process behind casting Jessica Henwick is not just oh she's biracial so she's cool. I just feel like the issue is that Dorne still seems awfully white and the poc there are a random array of diversity without any rhyme or reason.

oh god sabi i totally feel you, the consistency in that post sucks, i'd rather have seen ethnicity per region, and where is arianne? an actual WOC

seriously though. Like I'm not sure what the point of the total racial mismatch was there. I'm 100% down for representation because that will always be amazing, but at the point where there's just the idea: let's throw in a bunch of POCs to make people happy you have serious problems. You get the "sassy" Black friend or the nerdy Asian or the immigrant whose broken english is played for laughs. Bad representation is also super harmful.

I think the op was just trying to diversify a very white cast, but inconsistent casting just kind of gives off the vibe that all POC are interchangeable. Seeing Arianne would be nice since she's been cut from the actual show :(
