#032 Sasafune [ 笹舟 ] Sasafune is an ayakashi mermaid that can also disguise herself as a carp. She has a beautiful appearance but very arrogant. Due to the well-known legend of immortality if one consume their meat or blood, her kind was hunted to extinction which lead to her extreme hate towards human. She lived in a pond nearby the inn which Takashi Natsume stayed with his friends for study trip. Many years ago, in her carp form, she often played with a human girl named Chizu by the pond's edge. Fond of her, Sasafune finally decided to show the girl her true form but the next time her friend returned she was calling out for a mermaid instead. Disappointed and angry, she tricked Chizu by giving her grape juice instead of a mermaid's blood. Chizu remembered Sasafune as the 'mermaid with gentle eyes'. When Takashi returned her name, Sasafune asked him to tell the now elderly Chizu the truth and said how sorry she was for causing her living in guilt. She vanished soon after.
