she’s never... done that before. she’s never had the confidence to step between someone and oncoming danger (although she’s sure this wasn’t just danger, but certain death), whether it was between a friend and a bully or a stranger and... melody wonders just what those things were. monsters, surely. she’s never seen or heard of anything like them. she’s sure they’re dead now, though. the weight and power of the earth and roots closing in on them would most certainly do that. if even that didn’t kill them, well, the little fairy just wouldn’t know what to do. run, probably. or rather, she would’ve tried to. if she hadn’t felt that sudden compulsion to help this man, she’s sure she would’ve been frozen in fear. but... she wasn’t. melody can’t help but be thankful for that, that for once her muscles hadn’t frozen in place, instead running between this man and certain death.
“ i... i-i w-wanted to help. “ melody finally answers. for a moment, she didn’t even feel fear as she was placing herself between him and the monster. there was just a great desire to help that she couldn’t ignore. she wishes she had that kind of confidence and lack of fear when she was still in school. melody supposes it wasn’t a total lack of fear, though, her voice quivering and her hands trembling somewhat. she finally sees the blood on his face and gasps. “ o-oh, you— you’re b-bleeding! “ melody hastily pulls a bundle of tissues out of her messenger bag and squats down, gently wiping at the blood below his eyes. but to her surprise, there were no wounds there beneath the blood. that’s... strange. could it... have been blood from those things? whatever, it’s probably nothing to worry about.
she balls up the tissues and tucks them elsewhere in her bag. melody wonders if there are more of those things around. as big as they were and as loud as they were, she would see and hear them, right? still... it wouldn’t be best to linger here in case there are more. melody manages a timid smile and holds her hand out to him. “ here, l-let me help you. “ it probably wouldn’t be best to take a total stranger to her home, but she could at least take him to the flower shop. that’s where she was headed anyway, but she can’t help but hope that her boss, mister hartley, isn’t there. what kind of questions would this peculiar situation raise? a lot, and melody isn’t even sure how to answer them! “ i-i— i can take you back to m-m-my— my sh-shop for a little while. y-you’ll be safe there. “ or at least, she thinks he'll be safe there. “ you’ll be able to r-rest for a m-moment, at least. catch your breath. r-relax. “
