Samuel from my new series "O Human Child". Seventy years after W.O. Mitchell wrote Who Has Seen the Wind, I take a contemporary look at children growing up in rural Saskatchewan and consider how the tensions and complexities of childhood today both contrast and mirror those of Mitchell’s time.

PRIDE Some may say, "this doesn't look like Vera's work" and to them I say, "this is soooo much my work." I struggle with the whole idea of what is "my work." A "look" that speaks about repetition of style that supposedly says "you are an artist" because you can repeat a look over and over again fully knowing that what is in your heart and soul is never that way. And I struggle with the art world that demands "a series" in order to consider someone a serious artist, disregarding that it may not take 15 images to say something important. When I look at this image, I think, "man I’ve nailed it…exactly how I feel." This, in one image, says everything I have to say. There is no need for a series. I hope you can hear ...sometimes it doesn't take a scream. A whisper will do..
