SJIS Kabaddi Competition Mr. K.C.Jain, Principal, Satyameva Jayate International School, hands over prizes to the winners of the SJIS Kabaddi Competition
Aamir Khan and Shah Bano case.
Dear Aamir Khan, now that you’re back with Satyamev Jayate Season 2, let me give my two bits about some topics you could have covered but conveniently seem to ignore.
Why not start with female circumcision, widely referred to as female genital mutilation, practiced even now by the Dawoodi Bohra Muslims, who are Ismaili Shias, where they cut off the clitoral parts of the external female genitalia of girls as young as seven, in order to limit their possibility of sexual pleasures? Or do you, like our Sunni brothers, maintain that Shias don’t belong to Islam? Didn’t you run an entire episode about caste system in the Hindu society? I’m guessing you forgot to look into your backyard?
How about the Shah Bano case and the plight of women who’re reduced to ‘objects to derive pleasure from; fields left to the man to be irrigated at his will’ by the Sharia? If this isn’t objectification of womanhood, I wonder what else is, Mr. Aamir Khan?! Let’s talk about how the Sharia law allows the husband to divorce his wives(!) just for the sake of it, also allowing them to not give ANY reason for the divorce. About how Sharia law prevents husbands from paying alimony to their wives, reducing them to live in the streets, shall we mister? Why not highlight how the Ulema is holding to ransom any dialogue towards a Uniform Civil Code in India?
Let’s talk about the PILs filed by Ulema to reduce the legally allowed marriageable age of girls in India, from 18 to 16? Let’s talk about the reasons that led to the Kerala state government issuing circular approving 16 years as marriageable age because of ‘cultural and religious’ reasons and pressure from IUML, which they were later forced to withdraw? How about that Delhi rape judgment where the judge cited Sharia to acquit a rapist after his assurance of marrying a minor girl? I’m sure you missed this in your first episode which talked about rape.
The dialogue has to start somewhere, and who better than a secular like you Mr. Aamir Khan?
