Of all the supernatural occurrences Kent put any stock in without evidence, it was ghosts. It was a rather simple conclusion that had lead him to have such a belief: if ghosts didn’t exist, who was to say that the afterlife didn’t? And so he believed in ghosts, as the alternative was something he couldn’t stomach.
So when his office had been phoned about sightings of a apparition mutilating people in the manner of its murder Kent had been less than enthused to investigate further. What would come of him proving it was real? There was no way even the American government was equipped to deal with such a threat.
And now he heard something calling to him. In the woods where Garraeu, James had reportedly been killed.
“...Fuck this.” His knees could curse him in the morning. He started jogging back the way he’d come, smoke from his pipe trailing behind him like a trail from a steam engine.
