Columbus Crew on verge of being saved from relocation

The people of Columbus and Anthony Precourt may both be getting their way. New buyers are in place to keep the Crew put, while their current owner is still on course to bring an MLS franchise to Austin.

TL;DR:

Precourt still gets to start a team in Austin (without paying the expansion fee)

A group of investors including local businessmen in Columbus and the family that owns the Cleveland Browns will pay the MLS expansion fee for a “new” MLS team, but that new team is actually just going to be the Columbus Crew.

MLS and Don Garber still fucking suck and care more about rich assholes like Anthony Precourt than it does the fans.  

Yes, the Crew are staying in Columbus but only because they’re paying MLS $150 million to keep one of the original MLS teams where it belongs (and the MLS feels like they’ll get some good publicity out of it)
