Setback for late evening bus campaign

Public transport campaigners in Epping Forest have been told that there’s no money to subsidise proposed late-evening bus services between Waltham Cross and Loughton/Debden. The services were intended to replace and extend the evening 250 and 251 services, which ended in August 2017 leaving no buses through Waltham Abbey after 9.15pm.

EOS London, who run several bus services in Epping Forest including the 66, 86 and forthcoming 13, have extended their daytime 66 bus routes from 1st September for a trial three month period. They’ve added early evening services including a 19.31 from Waltham Cross to Loughton, returning via Debden at 20.11, and a 20.50, returning at 21.30. The 66 route has been amended to cover Upshire.

250 and 251 set to close

We’ve received confirmation that the 250 and 251 bus services are due to end on Sunday 27th August 2017. Cllr Ray Gooding has told us that the services will cease because they are infrequently used and not affordable for the taxpayer.

While we appreciate that councils are under tremendous financial pressure we do not think that stopping these services is a reasonable solution – they are essential…

We’ve had an excellent response to our petition to save the 250 and 251 bus services – 300 online and a couple of hundred more on paper. We’ve been struck by the quality of the comments on the online petition and from people we’ve spoken to in person.
