Week 1 of Internship
My first task was to analyse what our company provides compared to others. I needed to check if what the other companies provided was value-adding or not. Whether it was or not, I would leave a comment about why I think it is/isn’t. It was difficult since I didn’t know what the target market for each company but I think I did well in the end. My next task was to work in the front desk and guide whoever came in for the workshop. I was with another intern who was already working in the front desk. She was there for a few weeks already so I simply observed what she was doing and followed. After the first few guests I learned how to properly accommodate them. I also brought drinks for the guests afterwards. My third task was a tough one. I had to cut some marketing collateral. It was the toughest task yet. I spent hours cutting paper with rusty scissors. I probably severed a vein or something because it started to hurt pretty badly. But I finished before the day ended and developed some hand muscles as a consolation price. My last task for the week was to call multiple schools and ask a series of questions. The first one hanged up on me after my third question. Then I couldn’t get all the information on the second school. However, I managed to get the full information on the third school. The difficulty in this task was contacting the schools. Most of them(15) had false numbers online. I had to look on their Facebook page or dive into their website to find their number. When I managed to get through, I would be passed around between departments until I reached someone who can answer my questions. The waiting music was “Hella lit” though so waiting wasn’t an issue. I managed to get information out of 27 schools although I called some of them again to complete my data. The number of schools that I was supposed to contact was 29. But I simply couldn’t get the number of the 2 schools no matter where I look. It took me 4 days to finish this task because a lot of the admissions & registrar staff were on leave when I contacted the schools. But I finished it either way. All that is left from me is to commute home. I walk for 40 minutes until I reach the riding area for the tricycle. After that I ride a jeep home and go to bed.
