Tom Watson's Intern Blunder
So, #SaveTheIntern and Tom Watson's are trending at the moment. Here's the story:
Labour politician Tom Watson has gone into a meeting, and evidently left his Twitter account logged into a computer somewhere. His intern then goes onto his Twitter profile and posts "I should log out of my twitter so that my intern doesn't twit-rape me..." Funnily enough, this is the same thing that happens to thousands of people every day.
So, why the uproar? I'll tell you why.
People are crazy, in a nutshell. The term 'rape' when used with social networking has become synonymous with posting messages from someone else's social profile, and is used possibly thousands of times a day. The only reason this is kicking up a fuss is that political competition and the "I'm offended by that!" brigade will literally use any means they can to spark a public outcry.
What I think: Grow up! Who cares, seriously?
