EVERYTHING IS BIGGER IN TEXAS And it would appear that clearly includes narcissism, ignorance and wanton wastefulness.....especially in Corpus Christi lately. Nobody is eating Tiger Shark, and if by chance you are, then your elevator clearly does not go all the way to the top floor. So WTF are you killing these creatures? The meat of these animals (and that of Great Hammerheads like the 14 footer caught recently in Corpus Christi, TX by another recreational angler) is extremely toxic (methylmercury, arsenic and bioaccumulated toxin levels are off the charts). These sharks need our protection. Our oceans are dying and by eliminating these large apex predators, we are creating a tremendous imbalance that has a cascading effect, resulting in the decline of various other species lower down the foodchain. It amazes me that people cannot grasp that concept, or.....perhaps they do and decided that someone else can deal with those issues. Please STOP targeting them and STOP killing them! FFS!! This is right before they gaffed it in the head and posed for pictures. Please see the previous post. Remember - that's a 20ft haul to get that animal up there. It takes 30 years for a GW to reach sexual maturity - twice as long as for most sharks. They are heavily protected and landing one is illegal. After the struggle that this animal endured, the lactic acid build up in its musculature, along with the gaping head wound and no doubt, fractured jaw, it's seriously doubtful that this animal could survive. Fisherman, @terrafirmatackle claims it "swam away strong" but we know that's simply a moment of adrenaline and a convenient excuse behind which to take cover. There are simply too many anglers out there disrespecting our oceans like this, giving a bad name to those anglers who actually do give a shit. On a positive note, that's the third sub adult GW hooked around this area in the past few weeks showing that the species is trying to bounce back. Now if we can just keep the idiots from ruining their progress...
