Germany has started implementing article 17 (formely known as article 13)

Back in 2019,the EU Copyright Directive passed by a slim margin in Parliament,the very same Directive containing Upload Filters and Link taxes.And now its on its way. AO3 made an entry explaining clearly what are the stakes,and how the current language of the bill endangers non commercial sites such as AO3 itself,as well as Wikipedia.

Explains how this threathen freedom of speech and creativity during fair use,and how parodies,caricatures,postiche,etc should not be subjected to this. I do not know when or if other EU countries will also start implementing article 17 on their own. I do know there is a lawsuit from Poland ongoing trying to strike the Directive down (But it is extremely slow process,so its best to contact MEPs right away before too much damage is done under this Directive) Not only that,but TERREG (not part of the directive) which is the “anti terror law”) has been adopted without a plenary vote on a EU scale,which means that under one hour,certain sites will have to take down any content deemed as “terrorist” to governement’s eyes,without the control of a judge to see if its fair or not. So sites will have to resort to Upload Filters as the short time theyre given to take content down is ridiculously short. Terreg can be sued,but only if we see misuse,which isn’t really enough.

If you read this,I’m begging you to REBLOG AND SPREAD THIS LIKE WILDFIRE. Even if you’re not from the EU. Tweet about this,get Youtubers to talk about,anything to get the word out. Don’t let governements and greedy assholes censor our Internet.

Article 13 is going into it’s final stages of voting. 

If this gets through, it will allow many, many companies to abuse and misuse this article to take down as many memes, fan works, and even other independent creators on sites like YouTube, Facebook, and other websites INCLUDING Tumblr. 

THE FAIR USE LAW AND SAFEHARBOR LAW WILL NO LONGER APPLY IN THE U.S OR IN OTHER COUNTRIES. 

IT HAS ALREADY PASSED IN SEVERAL OTHER COUNTRIES. 

WE CANNOT ALLOW THEM TO TAKE AWAY WHAT WE BUILT FOR THE INTERNET SO FAR. 

So here is what you need to do to drag this article down. 

1. Spread the word 

I can’t stress this enough. The more attention this gets the more people we can get to take this down. 

2. Make your own content 

Make your own content on the matter and make sure it is clear to others that Article 13 is bad for every internet user involved. 

3. If you live anywhere in Europe, contact your MEPs 

Ask them if they approve of the article and why. If they do approve of it, try to convince them in a clear, reasonable, and most sensible way possible that this law is BAD. 

The article itself is way to vague about what it’s conveying to its people. 

Saying that as long as the use of said internet memes or content is good as long as it’s in “good faith.” 

We cannot let some shoddy government tell us what we can and cannot post. 

FREE SPEECH IS A HUMAN RIGHT. NOT A PRIVILEGE.

Quick reminder: Yesterday on the 14th of february 2019 the european parliament decided to accept article 13. Article 13 will force every internet page to use upload filters for the people who live in europe so we can’t see what we want to see anymore.

The last chance to stop article 13 is between march and april where the EU parliament will decide if article 13 will be implimented or not.

On the 23rd of march 2019 everywhere in the europe people will go on the streets and protest against article 13. So I beg you if you have time and are for the free internet try to go to a protest to save your internet.

What Is Wrong With This Picture?

Okay. We are in an incredibly precarious position with the EU Article 13 and Article 11 vote. The EU has revised the wording back to the worst possible form. This means that all kinds of things could be negatively impacted by such a change.

Here is a list of all the things we could stand to lose:

YouTube content from European creators

European fanworks

European users on almost every single platform

The shutdown of news from all the major news sources save for TV which is horribly biased. (At least in the US it is)

This entire thing is a nightmare waiting to ensnare the globe. Remember that this is the entirety of Europe, not just one small place. This could be the global change in a few years time if something isn't done now. Looking at these articles, it is plain to see that the EU Parliament does not care for it's people or the freedoms we have had since the inception of the internet.

Should this come to pass, none of these sites will implement filters. It is too costly to go through every single thing that is uploaded with bots to see if it is copyright infringement. This means that the EU is going to be shut out of nearly every single social media and major internet platform that you can think of. Don't get me wrong, people deserve pay for what work they do but killing everything online for an entire section of the world is not the way to go about it.

Do we want a future where all of the world governments get to decide what we view online? If this comes to pass, only negative things will come from it. Take heed people. Stand up for your freedom before it becomes commonplace not to have any at all.

For the record I am not from the EU but I am tired of watching the world burn under the rule of people who do not care.

uhh hey so the thing about net neutrality ending is actually super important. not just bc we’ll “lose memes” and the “internet culture” in general. but mainly bc the internet reaches the whole world. news are spread quickly and effectively.

since there seems to be a recent leaning towards fascism and autoritarism in governments around the world, it’s extremely helpful for them if they get the internet out of our reach. they will hide every little bit of information, like they once did.

please, losing the internet is losing our freedom.

Given that on September has been rejected EU members made emandamends to modify it. So it’s not the same as the first version. So, avoid (especially Americans) to shoot bullxxxxs about a normative system you don’t understand.

*First of all is NOT a law, it's a directive that can be adapted country to country.*

Users CAN post MEMES (caricature/parody), quote: “Users should be allowed to upload and make available content generated by users for specific purposes of quotation, criticism, *review* (note from me: what gameplays ARE) , caricature, parody or pastiche. particularly important to strike a balance between This is fundamental rights in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, in particular the freedom of expression and the freedom of the arts, and the right to property, including intellectual property.”

Fanart and Fanfictions, if made without profit, are allowed, quote: "these should also cover the copyright relevant acts in respect of uploads by the users within the scope of the authorisation granted to the service providers, but only in cases where the users act for non commercial purposes, such as sharing their content without any profit making purpose, or when the revenue generated by their uploads are not significant in relation to the copyright relevant act of the users for which they are covered"

What if my content belongs to exceptions but has been automatically removed? Provider must have an “an effective and expeditious complaint and redress mechanism” with human review, quote: “Complaints submitted under this mechanism shall be processed without undue delay and decisions to remove or disable access to uploaded content shall be subject to human review” (If you think that it won’t work… For personal experience, Instagram do this and works).

New/small enterprises (start-ups) have 3 years for comply, quote: “The modified regime applicable to new service providers with a small turnover and audience should benefit genuine new enterprises and should therefore ce ase to apply three years after they became first available online in the Union.”

Platformas like Wikipedia and Github are EXCLUDED , quote: “ Providers of services such as not-for profit online encyclopedias, not-for profit educational and scientific repositories, open source software developing and sharing platforms, electronic communication service providers as defined in Directive 2018/1972 establishing the European Electronic Communication Code, online marketplaces and business-to business cloud services and cloud services which allow users to upload content for their own use *shall not be considered* online content sharing service providers within the meaning of this Directive.”

Article 11 doesn’t apply to links or word accompanying, quote: “The protection granted under the first subparagraph shall not apply to arried out by acts of hyperlinking. The rights referred to in the first subparagraph shall not apply in respect of uses of individual words or very short extracts of a press publication.”

Stop believing bullsxxxs people (especially Youtube, its CEO (Youtube gain 80% of money that should expect to copyright holders and is terrorizing users and creators for this purpose) and Julia Reda that is just hunting votes for the coming European elections.) say!!
