who's saving and loading in the Determinator fight? im confused about this because Frisk reloads back to before the fight with Mettaton after Sans and Papyrus bring them back to their senses. but there were multiple saves during the Determinator fight, and reloads to those saves in the fight.

It's like with Photoshop Flowey. Frisk has their save file, and it's separate from Undyne. All the saves during the fight were on Undyne's end, so since Frisk didn't save at all, they were able to go back.

Can Chara actually control the artificial SAVE File they got from Asriel? Like, can they reload at any time they want, or does it only automatically reload if Chara and/or Frisk die?

It's basically like what happened after Toriel- Asriel saving for Chara and approximating that Chara has control, but technically he can assert himself over the save at any time.

I always thought resetting was something exclusive to the being with the most determination Underground. How does Asriel still have the ability to reset if he left the surface? Is it because the barrier is broken? Similar question, just to clarify Frisk and Chara would now be the only ones able to remember any resets done by Asriel, right?

True Resets exist, therefore it's not exclusive to being in the Underground. The way I interpret it, lore-wise, is that the ability to save and load is a failsafe the seven mages added to the barrier in case a human ever fell down. A baked in survival mechanic- so long as they had the will to live, they'd be able to save themselves. They didn't account for nonhumans with determination. Basically, the barrier is what 'unlocks' the ability, so even when on the surface, the power could remain because the vast majority of humans simply never crossed the barrier.

What this also means is that no new humans will be able to obtain the ability going forward. Now that the barrier is gone, the power cannot be spread to anyone else.

In the end, this means that the only ones who would keep such a strong memory would be Frisk, Chara, Flowey/Asriel, Undyne, and now Mettaton thanks to the amalgamation giving him rippleproof memory too.

Granted, of them, only Frisk, Chara, and Flowey/Asriel are still on the board.

If Frisk's file was getting saved as the Determinator fight went on, as the video suggests, then why do they end up back at the Core when they reload in chapter 49?

Because that wasn't Frisk's file. It was Undyne's. It's like Photoshop Flowey in Undertale.

How is it that neither Frisk or Chara are able to figure out that Flowey has taken over the power of save and loading? I figured they should at least be able to FEEL that they aren't connected to the save point anymore.

Flowey is good at fudging it. Consider that even in the neutral ending, it seems like there's still a degree of control until the SAVE point breaks.

Flowey, using his power, keeps up the illusion perfectly. He is letting Frisk and Chara feel that connection, with only a brief scare that was too fast for them to process.

when frisk reloads, does time rewind in the surface as well, or does it just rewind time within the barrier? i think i remember seeing you say that in the IF universe, saving, loading etc was a thing put in by the mages who created the barrier as a way to help humans who fell in or something along those lines,so i'm just curious if they made if they made if affect the surface as well?

I personally think it's simplest if it affects the surface, given that True Reset exists, but it's really one of those really blurry parts of the Undertale lore.

Wait, so when Undyne lost her DETERMINATION before she got the chance to reset and fix her mess, who took it was it Flowey or someone else

The amalgamates had so much DT they could have theoretically used the power, but they lacked the coherency to do so and never even knew of it.

The Flower was not conscious at the time, and while it was injected with a lot of determination, Papyrus was more moderate in how much he administered at a given time. That's why it took so long to wake up.
