Episode 4x10 where Jack & Kate are arguing about where she has been and she confesses that she promised Sawyer. This is definitely the moment that that encountered happened....we just don't know yet what he promised. Most likely theory posted after spoiler warning!

Sawyer has a daughter with Cassidy Phillips, woman he fell in love with and then scammed! It is most likely that he whispered this information to Kate & possibly telling her to give all his money to the daughter.
