You guys have to check out this supercool video for Sayed Sabrina's new single! I didn't make it, but I sure wish I could have been a fly on the wall in the studio that day! I did snap many iconic images of this gal through the years, and my photos will be featured in the album design, as well as in ads and such. Back in March of 2015 Rich and I were at our friend Sayed Sabrina’s house and she sat down at a keyboard and played some of these songs. I had no idea she was a songwriter! You see, Sabrina is one of the best blues singers I had ever heard, I already knew that! However, the tunes she creates on her own are absolutely mind blowing on a whole other level. I heard a LOT of blues growing up. I love the blues but generally I prefer music that goes in completely unpredictable directions, and the blues is pretty predictable. I went nuts over Sabrina's music because it was soulful and bluesy and you could not predict where she was going until after she takes you there! Her sound is a complex collage of rock-n-roll, soul, funk, blues, jazz, a·vant-garde, far out but down to earth trip! And underneath each song is her heart, and she has a big one! I just kept telling her she needed to share these songs. The world needs her. I am overjoyed she made this album. She is always compared to Janis Joplin, Ella Fitzgerald, and a plethora of other really impressive singers. But to my ears, Sabrina’s tunes and sound remind me more of a marriage between Captain Beefheart, David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust,) Tim Buckley in his experimental Starsailor phase, “Smile” era Brian Wilson and Odetta! There is a lot of Janis Ian and Phoebe Snow in there too. But I was just blown away because this stuff she played that was like WOW! And I have been angry at her for not putting this out there ever since then. But now I can't be mad at her anymore because her album is out!
