What The Martyr Says
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
My master Hussain has taught me what death ought to be Let them rip me apart even if my family must see His head was taken so who am I to die with it intact? I’ll lose it in my love for Hussain if my killer fails to act
O he who seeks to kill me, to be killed I am also hoping My life and death both lead to victory, so stop running The blood that is spilled won’t be ordinary, you miscalculate My lands still stand because of the blood that irrigate
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
Martyrdom is freedom whichever way death reaches me Even through torture because then my blood leaves happy Then, even my cold body will congratulate my soul “O soul at peace! Return to your Lord!” (89:27-28)
Near Him I will be provided for and nothing else can equate For it is only a death if I fail to meet Him in a pure state Whatever I achieve, it is by my Lord’s grace and generosity Know the path to martyrdom is open to everybody
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
My mother was oppressed and slapped Martyred and saddened in Haidar’s lap Who am I to die without a scratch? How will I face her with my head attached?
At last, I know what that young Qassem meant “Martyrdom is sweeter to me than honey” he said The blood in my veins have a sweet craving Nothing less than martyrdom will be satisfying
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
Why would you mourn me if Zahraa is pleased? Be happy if she is happy, by my death her pain is eased Why would you be upset if my body does not return? Don’t you know that like Fatima for anonymity I yearn?
I don’t care for Heaven, I just want Zahraa’s welcome Her heart and body broke, and her salve is my martyrdom For her sake I will take my final breath if my Lord accepts me If He does-know that it is was not due to my deeds but His Mercy
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
Don’t let my death sadden you but let it be a hope If a sinner like me was chosen, then don’t give up Allah expands the road to Him for the seeker So be thirsty and the path will take you faster
In desperation I cry and beg to live and die for Allah I have found what I spent my entire life searching for I’m a student of the school of martyrdom Each martyr is a lesson to be learned from
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
From the eminence of my Imam, I will receive permission For my martyrdom I will beg, and he will gift me an invitation Martyrdom comes in many forms, but I want to be proud The one after severe torture or the one that leaves no shroud
I don’t know which will weigh more on that day My hijab or the blood that is spilled in God’s Name To God I submit my case as I’m desperate for salvation So, I’ll keep begging for martyrdom with conviction
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
At the gates of his holy dome death shall come It won’t be any death, but it will be martyrdom Do you see what I see at Hussain’s shrine? He is waiting just as I am waiting for the right time
I will beg them for what I know I don’t deserve But my hopes for martyrdom Zaynab will preserve She who supported, raised, and mourned the martyrs Will know how to take me as one of their followers
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
---
I am not in this for profit although indeed there is no loss For God’s pleasure and Company, I have taken these vows There is nothing greater-I will only serve my Lord By my life and death, it is God Who must be adored
You cannot change me or undue God’s guidance Every morning I renew my promise and allegiance We cannot mourn Imam Hussain if we hesitate We should rush to martyrdom-we’re already late
O Mother don’t cry… don’t cry It is for Allah we live, and we die
