Drew one of my own OCs into Oakhurst and made them a story to fit with the world (some extra info under Read More for anyone interested)
This is Arlyn! As the third child of the Silversmiths, they were sent to Oakhurst to fulfill a longstanding tradition in their family: every 200 years, the third child of the family must journey to the land now called Oakhurst and assist its current leader with the duties and responsibilities which they cannot do. With the family patriarch breathing down their neck about this "time-honored tradition", Arlyn arrives at Oakhurst within the timeframe of that 200 year period, right along with everyone else.
Poor Arlyn, gotta make the best of it by helping out the growing town, I guess. They're really glad that there are at least some responsible people in this bunch, because they would not know what to do with themself if they are the only one farming, building, and mining for the entire town, so that's at least one less responsibility that's too taxing.
Wait, why is the vampire hunter, the so-called cryptid expert, and the monster fiction author eyeing their hair like that? White hair is a genetic family trait that is very common in their family, they'll have you know.
Their covered eye? Why doctor, you see, they cannot really see that much from that eye since birth, so they just styled their look to cover it up since it was a useless endeavor to see through it, anyway.
The beacons keep being interrupted when they go near it? Why, it's not their fault that the old things break apart easily with just a single breath, Mr. Woodhurst, that's just the bad design of whoever made these beacons.
Their family name? Oh, it's just the name of a family of silver exporters. Don't mind it that much, Mr. Owen, they are here to assist as per tradition.
(Wait, did one of their neighbors say that they are a Goldsmith? No one in their family knew whatever the hell happened to their old employer's family, how the hell is a descendant here–)
This character's backstory was literally just me asking the question of "Who handled the human things that Scott wasn't able to do before he slept like getting rid of silver and maintaining upkeep of the castle?" and answering with "A human family of servants, of course!"
