Title: The Silent Bride

Genre: Young adult, Sci-Fi

Summary: Marina Youngblood is a dread-filled bride-to-be. Her entire wedding was chosen for her, down to the fiance and the dress. However, that kind of thing isn’t unheard of. What is unheard of, though, is having your wedding crashed by the rebellion that’s been a thorn in the government’s side for the passed year and a half.

Marina’s now found herself surrounded by those that want her fiance dead… a goal she’s more than willing to help with.

I stare at myself in the floor-length hologram, a reflection of myself being broadcasted from the microscopic camera just inches from me. The dress flows passed my ankles, pooling on the floor. It’s alright if it’s a bit long, the tailor told me. It’s how my husband-to-be wanted it, so that’s how it was going to be. I had tried to sign that there was no way I could walk down the mile-long aisle to the man in a dress like this and the heels he had chosen for me. But, of course, he didn’t understand. Men aren’t taught the silent language, only the women.

So, here I am. The corset is interwoven with the latest metallic threads on the market, made especially tight. My husband enjoys the hourglass shape, after all, and it’s difficult for someone of my thin proportions to have such bodily depth. I’ve been trying to gain weight, but it’s hard to find the time with the wedding preparations. My breaths come out in silent, shallow pants as I study the intricate designs on the fabric. They shimmer in different ways depending on how the light hits them, but they all look the same to me.

They are all supposedly of my fiance’s conquests through the cosmos. On one bit of fabric his conquering of the Morphlings is present, on another he’s shooting an enemy soldier in the head. But, to me, they all seem like the same enemy: myself.
